I do feel that the figure on the left should be way more muted, if not removed. I think your metaphor will stand up just as strongly if not more strongly.
Or at least the teeth toned down considerably.
Keeping the abstraction of "Why" the apocalypse will play much stronger instead of leading the viewer down a clique.
Just an opinion.
